Basketball Recap: Stone Mountain Comes Up Short

Stone Mountain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 61-44 bruising from the Luella Lions. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 435th, while the Lions are ranked 104th).

Leading Luella to victory were Jordan Smith and Dan Oiboh. Smith almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards, while Oiboh went 7 of 11 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cordarius Wood, who posted eight points.

Stone Mountain's record is now 2-6. As for Luella, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-1.

Stone Mountain will take on M.L. King in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Luella, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-53 defeat against Rockdale County on the 14th.
