Softball Game Preview: Weddington Warriors vs. High Point Christian Academy Cougars

The Weddington Warriors will challenge the High Point Christian Academy Cougars at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Weddington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: Marvin Ridge, who was ranked sixth at the time (Weddington was ranked first). The Warriors never let the Mavericks get on the board and left with a 6-0 win last Thursday. The victory was nothing new for the Warriors as they're now sitting on five straight.

Meanwhile, High Point Christian Academy came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Trojans.

Paisley Dixon looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kerri Langfitt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Maci Burkhart was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

High Point Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in six consecutive contests.

High Point Christian Academy's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Weddington, their win bumped their record up to 17-1.
