Basketball Game Preview: Walsh Eagles vs. Springfield Longhorns

Walsh hasn't had much luck against Springfield recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Walsh Eagles will challenge the Springfield Longhorns at 5:00 p.m.

Last Friday, Walsh came up short against Kim/Branson and fell 43-31.

The losing side was boosted by Reece Mundell, who posted ten points and five boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

Even though they lost, Walsh smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Springfield entered their tilt with South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They blew past the Patriots 68-42. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Longhorns had established a 25 point advantage.

Springfield pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points per game. As for Walsh, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.

Walsh took a serious blow against Springfield in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 62-28. Thankfully for Walsh, Lainee Leathers (who went 11 for 16 on her way to 23 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
