Springwood snaps four-game streak of wins on the road

Recap: Springwood Wildcats vs. Bessemer Academy Rebels

The Springwood Wildcats and the Bessemer Academy Rebels squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but sadly the Springwood Wildcats had to settle for second. They took a hard 76-61 fall against the Rebels. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Springwood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Westbrook, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Micah Thomas, who scored 13 points along with six assists and two steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bessemer Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Johnathan Winston, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Joshua Thompson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.

Bessemer Academy's lineup was just a bit different on Tuesday as Thompson got a bit more time on the court (25 vs. his season average of 13.05). Thompson made the most of the opportunity, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.

Springwood's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-7. As for Bessemer Academy, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 22-1.

Springwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bessemer Academy, they will square off against Glenwood at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Bessemer Academy is coming into the game with seven straight wins on the road, meaning Glenwood will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
