Football Recap: Durant Comes Up Short

Durant extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-4. They took a hard 31-13 fall against the Wharton Wildcats. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, Durant still got an impressive performance from Sam Themar, who threw for 213 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 30 yards and one TD. 124 of Themar's passing yards were hauled in by King Rivera.

Wharton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ty Nesmith out in front who rushed for 108 yards and one score on only seven carries, and also threw for 54 yards and one touchdown. Nesmith got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 78 yards. Another player making a difference was Jaden Quenga, who threw for 179 yards and a pair of TDs on only 16 passes.

Durant and Wharton will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Cougars are set to face off against their familiar foe Riverview at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Wharton will take on rival Sickles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
