MaxPreps is honored to name the best high school softball players from the 2016 season. This first installment honors players from large schools. The players on the Large Schools All-State Team are selected from schools who participate in enrollment divisions generally larger than 2,000 students.

Large Schools Player of the Year: Camryn Ybarra, Mission Viejo, Junior

Consistently facing some of the best pitching in the country, Ybarra led the Diablos in batting average (.514), home runs (12), hits (54), on-base percentage (.617) and runs scored (33). As a result, the Diablos won the CIF-Southern Section D-2 championship.



Ybarra was named the MaxPreps National Junior Player of the Year, MaxPreps all-American, MaxPreps underclass all-American, the Orange County Register's Orange County Softball POY and a first team all-Southern Section choice.

Committed to Oregon State, Ybarra went a combined 25-for-42 (.595) against the elite pitchers in the top three tournaments on the west coast – the Best of the West, the Dave Kops Tournament of Champions and the Michelle Carew Classic.

The versatile Ybarra played infield and outfield for the Diablos, who finished the season 27-4.

Large Schools Team of the Year: Sheldon (Sacramento)

Sheldon won its final 25 games and won the Sac-Joaquin Section D-1 championship with a 2-1 win over Tracy.



The Huskies finished 30-2 and batted .405 as a team, scoring 278 times. Eight starters batted over .300, including all-state players Jordan and Maci Fines, plus Sarah Fukushima. Junior pitcher Taliyah Miles was 23-2 with a 1.78 ERA.

Large Schools Coach of the Year: Mary Jo Truesdale, Sheldon (Sacramento)

Truesdale guided the Huskies to a 30-2 season, a season-ending 25-game win streak and the Sac-Joaquin Section D-1 title. It was Sheldon's second-straight title.

Under Truesdale, Sheldon has won seven section titles in the last 14 years.

After losing 6-5 in 10 innings to Del Campo (Fair Oaks) on March 22, the Huskies allowed just 40 runs during their 25-game win streak. And in those games, they averaged nine runs per game. In their five playoff games this season, the Huskies outscored opponents 36-5 and recorded three shutouts.

P - Taylor Dockins, Norco, Junior
Dockins won 26 games to lead Norco to the CIF-SS D-1 title. Named the Big 8 League's MVP and selected to the Riverside Press Enterprise first team, she also hit .359 with 26 runs batted in while finishing the season with a 1.51 ERA and 148 strikeouts. Committed to Cal State Fullerton, Dockins has a career record of 75-18 at Norco with an ERA of 1.44.

P - Analise De La Roca, Port of Los Angeles (San Pedro), Junior
The Arizona State commit set a record for the CIF-Los Angeles City Section with 408 strikeouts, finishing 26-4 with a 0.43 ERA, 20 shutouts, five no-hitters and three perfect games. She allowed only 19 runs (12 earned) and 31 walks in 197 innings. De La Roca batted .521 with four home runs, 49 hits, 16 doubles and 37 RBIs

P - Maddy Dwyer, Orange Lutheran, Junior
Dwyer led Orange Lutheran to the CIF-SS D-1 final, as she won an Orange County-best 26 games, struck out 173, pitched a dozen shutouts and posted a 1.10 ERA. She has committed to Stanford.

P - Danielle Williams, Amador Valley (Pleasanton), Sophomore
A double threat, the East Bay Athletic League MVP batted .458 and tossed eight no-hitters to finish with an ERA of 0.53. She picked up 20 wins and also struck out 245 batters in 144 innings. Williams has committed to Missouri.

P - Holly Azevedo, Pioneer (San Jose), Junior
A future UCLA Bruin, Azevedo went 25-3 with a 0.18 ERA, 334 strikeouts in 191 innings and pitched 17 shutouts. Each of her three 2016 losses were by one run. She also batted .482 with 10 extra-base hits. Azevedo, who pitched four no-hitters, has allowed just six earned runs in her last two seasons.



P - Natalie Lugo, South Hills (West Covina), Junior
Lugo was 10-0 in leading South Hills to the Palomares League title. She didn't allow an earned run in league play. She finished 18-6 with a 0.62 ERA with 279 strikeouts in 159 innings. For the second-consecutive year, Lugo was named the San Gabriel Valley Tribune Softball Player of the Year. She has committed to Florida.

P - Briana Wheeler, Etiwanda, Senior
Wheeler won 18 games and posted a 1.27 ERA in 93 innings. She struck out 108 batters as Etiwanda was nationally ranked for most of the season and finished at 28-3. She has signed with Hawaii.

P - Gabby Sandoval, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), Senior
The Southern Oregon commit was 18-3 with a 1.74 ERA. She was best in the playoffs, when she won five games to lead Mater Dei to its first CIF-SS title since 1998. She did not allow an earned run in 35 postseason innings, tossing three shutouts and limiting powers Etiwanda and Orange Lutheran to nine combined hits.

P - Marie Sobel, Oaks Christian (Westlake Village), Senior
The Seton Hall-bound Sobel earned the Marmonte League's Pitcher of the Year award, garnered all-CIF D-2 honors and was named the Los Angles Daily News Player of the Year. She produced a 20-2 record with a 1.62 ERA as Oaks Christian finished 30-2-1. She had 110 strikeouts and 38 walks in 134 innings.

P - Danielle Lung, Clovis, Sophomore
Lung went 22-4 as Clovis won 25 of 30 games. She had a 1.05 ERA and opponents batted just .152 against her in 174 innings. She struck out 271 batters as well. She was a first-team all-Tri-River Athletic Conference selection.

P - Ryan Denhart, Los Alamitos, Junior
Denhart led the Griffins to the CIF-SS D-1 semifinals. Denhart, who won 14 games in the circle, posted a 1.18 ERA and averaged better than a strikeout per inning, has committed to Maryland.



P - Mariah Lopez, Saugus, Senior
Headed to Oklahoma, Lopez was 12-2 with a 1.05 ERA and struck out 194 batters in 124 innings. She was named the Foothill League Pitcher of the Year.

C - Allysa Shipman, Valencia, Sophomore
Committed to Tennessee, Shipman batted.447 with seven homers, 36 RBIs, 31 runs scored, 13 doubles and two triples as Valencia advanced to the CIF-SS D-1 quarterfinals before losing to Norco.

C - Terra McGowan, Mission Viejo, Sophomore
Splitting her time between outfield and catcher, McGowan led Mission Viejo with 33 RBIs and was second in average (.402), home runs (10) and runs (24). She has committed to Arizona State.

C - Kelcey Carrasco, Tulare Western, Junior
The East Yosemite League MVP helped lead the Mustangs to a share of the EYL title. Carrasco had a .500 batting average, 47 RBIs, 10 home runs, 23 extra-base hits, .595 on-base percentage, .958 slugging percentage and a 1.553 OPS. She has committed to Michigan State.

C - Montana Dixon, Lakewood, Senior
Bound for Stanford, Dixon hit .493 with a .654 on-base percentage this season while leading Lakewood to its fifth-consecutive Moore League title and a trip to the CIF-SS D-1 semifinals. Dixon has been named a scholar-athlete, all-Moore League first team, all-CIF-SS, all-CIF State and Press-Telegram Dream Team in all four years of her Lancers career.

C - Dejah Mulipola, Pacifica (Garden Grove), Senior
The Arizona-bound senior capped her Pacifica career with a .484 batting average and was outstanding defensively. The Empire League MVP is regarded by many as the top catcher in the Class of 2016.



IF - Mackenzie Boesel, Orange Lutheran, Senior
Known for her fielding, Boesel was just as good at the plate, leading 30-4 Orange Lutheran with a .418 batting average and 46 hits, while finishing second in RBIs (32) and runs scored (35). The Trinity League MVP will attend South Carolina.

IF - Aniesa Maulupe, Carson, Senior
Despite being walked 27 times, Maulupe batted .692 and drove in 35 runs on 36 hits (10 homers) as Carson won 22 games. Her slugging percentage was 1.423 and her on-base percentage was .793. She has signed with Long Beach State.

IF - Taylon Snow, Chino Hills, Junior
Honored all-CIF, all-Inland Valley and first team all-league for a third time, Snow batted .438 (46-for-105) with 10 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 37 RBIs with a slugging percentage of .847. She has committed to Auburn.

IF - Sienna Swain, Buchanan (Clovis), Senior
Named the Fresno Bee's POY, Swain hit .523 with 40 runs and 29 RBIs as Buchanan went 26-5. Swain reached base in 28 of 31 games and had two hits and an RBI in the Bears' 2-0 victory over defending champion Clovis in the Central Section D-I final. She has signed with UC Riverside.
IF - Jessica Harper, West Ranch (Valencia), Senior
Harper, who has signed with Arizona, batted .405 and had 11 homers and 36 RBIs. She also scored 28 times, stole 10 bases and committed just two errors defensively.

IF - Reyna Carranco, Oxnard, Senior
Carranco, who has signed with Arizona, batted .628, had 54 hits (in 28 games), drove in 46 and scored 41 runs in leading Oxnard to a 22-6 record.

IF - Malia Martinez, Poway, Senior
Signed by Arizona, Martinez led Poway to the CIF-San Diego Secton D-1 final, a 7-6 loss to San Marcos. She batted over .500 and was the SDS D1 Player of the Year.



IF - Julia Jimenez, Etiwanda, Junior
Committed to Michigan, Jimenez hit .427 (44-for-103) with 11 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs, 36 runs scored and 47 RBIs in 31 games. She had multiple hits in 15 games and according to news reports, she hit the first pitch she saw this season for a home run.

IF - Maci Fines, Sheldon (Sacramento), Junior
Fines, who was named the Sacramento Bee's co-MVP with her sister Jordan, hit .518 with 58 hits, 24 RBIs and 50 runs to lead Sheldon to the CIF-SJS D-1 title. Sheldon won its final 25 games of the season. She has committed to UC Santa Barbara.

IF - Jordan Fines, Sheldon (Sacramento), Senior
Fines batted .444 with 44 hits, 38 RBIs, 12 doubles and 30 runs. She was named the Sacramento Bee's co-MVP with her sister Macie and has signed with Cal. Sheldon won its final 25 games of the season and the CIF-SJS D-1 title.

IF - Priscilla Martinez, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), Senior
The spark plug for the Monarchs' title-winning season led the team in average (.462), RBIs (33) and doubles (11). Signed by George Washington, she had five hits against Norco and Orange Lutheran in the semifinals and CIF-SS title games.

OF - Sarah Fukushima, Sheldon (Sacramento), Senior
Fukushima helped lead Sheldon to the CIF-SJS D-1 title by hitting 14 home runs and driving in 46 teammates. She batted .462 and scored 40 runs. She has signed with Cal State East Bay.

OF - Megan Stevens, Etiwanda, Senior
The Grand Canyon University signee finished her senior season with a .614 batting average, 62 hits, 49 RBIs, 56 runs and 19 home runs. Stevens had an on-base percentage of .642 and slugged 1.297. She was also 6-1 with a 1.25 ERA in limited pitching duty.



OF - Vanessa Taukeiaho, Etiwanda, Senior
Taukeiaho led California with 20 home runs and batted .640. She had 15 doubles, 56 RBIs, scored 54 times and knocked 64 base hits. Her power percentages were impressive: slugging 1.422 and producing an OPS of 2.116. Taukeiaho has signed with Oklahoma. 

OF - Sarah Fisher, Rancho Buena Vista (Vista), Senior
Fisher was the heart and soul of the Longhorns and led them to the CIF-SDS D-2 title. She batted .461 with 47 hits, drove in 30 teammates and scored 32 times. Of her 18 extra-base hits, eight were homers.

UTIL - Madilyn Nickles, Merced, Senior
Nickles compiled a 20-5 record along with a 0.63 ERA, leading the Bears (22-7) to the D-1 semifinals of the Sac-Joaquin Section. She struck out 308 batters in 167 innings, walked only 28, pitched nine shutouts and three no-hitters. Nickles batted .552 with 20 doubles, eight home runs and 27 RBIs to finish with a 1.126 slugging percentage and zero strikeouts in 104 plate appearances. She has signed with UCLA.

UTIL - Carli Cutler, Rocklin, Senior
Cutler batted and pitched Rocklin to the CIF-SJS D-2 title when she went 21-3 with a 0.89 ERA and struck out 224 in 159 innings. She also batted .478 with team highs in base hits (44) and RBIs (23). She has signed with Connecticut.
