Basketball Recap: Bunker Hill Comes Up Short

Bunker Hill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 76-70 heartbreaker at the hands of the East Burke Cavaliers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 67-51 back in January.

East Burke's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Barger Shook, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. That's the most points Shook has posted since back in November of 2024. Owen Hartmann was another key player, going 5 for 8 en route to 19 points.

Bunker Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 2-19. As for East Burke, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-12 record.

Bunker Hill and East Burke could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Bunker Hill (ranked 561st) will meet Maiden (ranked 94th) at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, East Burke will square off against Lincolnton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday down 253 places (372 vs. 119).
