Baseball Recap: Pender Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Clinton, Pender was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lakewood Leopards, sneaking past 10-8. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-1 back in February.

Ryan Howell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Howell was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sean Cummings was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Peyton Tant also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Pender's record is now 5-13. As for Lakewood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Pender will head out to face off against Heide Trask at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Lakewood, they will be playing at home against Neuse Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
