Ohio high school football: 2016 by the numbers

Streaks, sacks, stats, standouts, serious yardage ... it's all here. A look at football numbers of note in Ohio.

3 – Teams in Mercer County (population 40,814) that open the season ranked No. 1 in the MaxPreps/JJHuddle Ohio State Football Rankings. They are: Coldwater (D-V), Marion Local (Maria Stein) (D-VI) and Fort Recovery (D-VII).

4 – Consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons East (Sciotoville) senior running back Akia Brown is trying to record.

5 – Straight state finals Marion Local and Kirtland have played in. The duo met in last year's D-VI state final with Kirtland winning 22-20.



7 – Straight D-V state finals Coldwater has played in. The Cavaliers have won four in a row.

8 – Number of interceptions New Miami (Hamilton) senior defensive back Christian Acus had last year.

17 – Sacks last year for Summit Country Day (Cincinnati) senior defensive lineman Andrew Bissmeyer.

17 – State record for consecutive field goals made, set by Hudson junior kicker Grant Gonya last season.

19 – Straight years Coldwater has been in the playoffs. That is the state's longest current streak.

46 – Total touchdowns Columbiana senior quarterback Mitch Davidson accounted for last year.

47 – Total touchdowns Indian Hill (Cincinnati) senior quarterback Reed Aichholz accounted for last year.

2,635 – Passing yards last season for Benjamin Logan (Bellefontaine) senior quarterback Trey Wilson. He also threw 37 touchdown passes.

2,963 – Passing yards last season for Mentor senior quarterback Tadas Tatarunas. He threw for 24 touchdowns.

3,039 – Rushing yards Trotwood-Madison junior running back Raveion Hargrove ran for last year. It's the eighth-highest single-season mark in Ohio history. He ran for 39 touchdowns.



4,042 – Career passing yards for Marlington (Alliance) senior quarterback Chris Pennell.

4,114 – Passing yards Hamilton Township (Columbus) senior quarterback Patrick Robinson has thrown for the last two years. He's tossed 38 touchdowns during that span too.

4,606 – Passing yards Ashland senior quarterback Grant Denbow has thrown for the last two years. Touchdowns? He's thrown 42 in two years.

5,022 – Rushing yards Central Catholic (Toledo) senior running back Michael Warren has amassed the last two years. He also scored 59 touchdowns.
