Basketball Recap: Pawnee City's Losing Streak Snapped at Eight Games

Pawnee City came into Thursday's match having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They took down the Southern Raiders 45-26 on Thursday. The Indians' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Pawnee City was led to victory by Emalyse Gottula and Cara Pierce. Gottula posted 16 points in addition to eight assists and six boards, while Pierce went 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points and eight steals. The dominant performance gave Pierce a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Benson, who put up seven points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Pawnee City was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Pawnee City's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Southern, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Pawnee City will take on Parkview Christian in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Southern will take on Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer in a holiday battle at on Saturday.
