Baseball Recap: Highland Triumphs

Highland's tournament run continued when they took on New Trier on Wednesday. The Hawks walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Trevians.

Candon Cheney tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Beau Tarwater, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Highland's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Shaw, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Highland now has a winning record of 7-6. As for New Trier, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1-1.

Highland wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 10-1 win against Williams Field on the 27th. As for New Trier, they have also already played their next contest, a 13-2 victory against Thurston on the 27th.
