Preview: KIPP Denver Collegiate White Tigers vs. Arrupe Jesuit Generals
The KIPP Denver Collegiate White Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Arrupe Jesuit Generals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
After soaring to a 25-point victory in their last game, KIPP Denver Collegiate came back down to earth on Thursday. They fell just short of Platte Canyon by a score of 40-38. KIPP Denver Collegiate's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Adel Adam, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Ronaldo Sandoval, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Arrupe Jesuit's seven-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They snuck past Lake County with a 68-63 victory. Arrupe Jesuit's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Arrupe Jesuit can attribute much of their success to Xavier Martinez, who scored 16 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds, and Ari Cowans, who scored 30 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Martinez posted eight or more assists. Oscar Padilla was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 15 rebounds and two steals.
KIPP Denver Collegiate's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Arrupe Jesuit, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-7.
KIPP Denver Collegiate barely slipped by Arrupe Jesuit in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 45-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for KIPP Denver Collegiate since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
