Basketball Game Preview: College Park Cavaliers vs. Westfield Mustangs

The College Park Cavaliers will face off against the Westfield Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

College Park is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Cleveland: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that College Park blew Cleveland out of the water with a 59-25 final score. The victory continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won six in a row.

Brooke Smith was nothing short of spectacular: she went 8 of 15 en route to 17 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kk Forge, who posted nine points and eight boards.

Meanwhile, Westfield had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 55-32 win. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 games by 20 points or more this season.

College Park better keep an eye on Saniya Broomfield. She was instrumental in Westfield's win, going 7 for 10 to rack up 19 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Broomfield a new career-high in blocks (two). Courtlynn Coleman was another key player, putting up six points along with ten boards and seven steals.

Westfield pushed their record up to 22-5 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.9 points over those games. As for College Park, their record is now 19-11.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: College Park has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Westfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

College Park was taken down by Westfield 53-22 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can College Park avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
