Softball Recap: Wilton/Wing Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Wilton/Wing dropped their record down to 5-4 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They came up short against the Velva/Drake/Anamoose Aggies, falling 11-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Miners of the 19-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Velva/Drake/Anamoose, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-2. Considering they have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Velva/Drake/Anamoose's part, Grace Balas made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Balas has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Velva/Drake/Anamoose got a massive performance out of Quincy Bruner, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Kinley Peterson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wilton/Wing will host Larimore at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Velva/Drake/Anamoose, they will be playing at home against Central McLean [Turtle Lake-Mercer/Underwood/McClusky] at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
