Recap: Soquel Knights vs. Santa Cruz Cardinals
It was a good run, but the Soquel Knights unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Santa Cruz, falling 67-40. While losing is never fun, Soquel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 636th, while Santa Cruz is ranked 114th).
Santa Cruz's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Demarco Hunter, who scored 22 points along with four blocks. Hunter has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Demeke Smith, who shot 4-for-6 from deep and dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Soquel now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Santa Cruz, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.
Soquel will head out on the road to take on Aptos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Aptos has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 320 points over their last five games. As for Santa Cruz, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Scotts Valley.
