Basketball Recap: El Capitan/Centennial Academy vs. St. Michael Cardinals
El Capitan/Centennial Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 49 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 54-42 win over St. Michael.
El Capitan/Centennial Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Monte Hammon, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Hammon also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Jairus Hammon, who scored 18 points along with four steals.
El Capitan/Centennial Academy's win was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.5 points per game. As for St. Michael, their loss dropped their record down to 8-16.
El Capitan/Centennial Academy has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Williams is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season. As for St. Michael, they will head out on the road to take on the Yeti at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Averaging 64.5 points so far this season, Basis' high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Cardinals better be ready for a challenge.
