Recap: South Mecklenburg Sabres vs. Clover Blue Eagles

The South Mecklenburg Sabres put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 71-56 win over Clover. Given South Mecklenburg's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 31st in North Carolina, while Clover is ranked 139th in South Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Peter Moye was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 14 rebounds. The contest was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Anderson Skelton, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Clover still got an impressive performance from Owen Galeota, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Galeota scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Agard, who scored 12 points.

South Mecklenburg's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-0. As for Clover, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Mecklenburg won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mill Creek at 2:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Mill Creek is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games. Clover won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Independence at 7:00 p.m. on December 22nd. Averaging 57.1 so far this season, Independence's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Clover better be ready for a challenge.
