Medina is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Barker/Royalton-Hartland. Medina breezed by Barker/Royalton-Hartland on the road to the tune of 56-7 on Friday. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 182nd, while the Bulls are ranked 538th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Newfane gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They came out on top against Wilson by a score of 24-13. The win was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Newfane can attribute much of their success to Mac Capen, who rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 49 yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Newfane's defense and their six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Richard Doxey and Colin Doxey who racked up all six sacks between them. Colin is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last four games he's played dating back to last season.
