Basketball Recap: South Miami Cobras vs. Jackson Generals
South Miami had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 0-2 to make it six. They came up short against the Jackson Generals, falling 57-32. The Cobras lost against the Generals in their previous head to head back in November of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 25-23 score last time.
As for Jackson, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.7 points on average this season.
Jackson found their leader in sophomore Mya Padilla, who dropped a double-double with 32 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Padilla has scored at least a third of the Generals' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madeline Acosta, who posted 12 points in addition to six boards and four steals.
South Miami didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-17 loss against Coral Park on the 1st. As for Jackson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 43-38 victory against American on the 3rd.
