Basketball Game Preview: Nitro Wildcats vs. Fairmont Senior Polar Bears

Nitro has won 17 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Fairmont Senior has won 17 straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Saturday. The Nitro Wildcats will welcome the Fairmont Senior Polar Bears at 2:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Nitro fought the good fight in their overtime match against St. Albans on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Dragons by a score of 68-65.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Collin Crouch, who went 9 for 12 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Poniatowski, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Nitro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Fairmont Senior earned a 60-51 victory over Charleston Catholic on Saturday.

Fairmont Senior's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Nitro, their loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-2.
