Softball Recap: Strathmore Triumphs

While Strathmore's win against Granite Hills wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Grizzlies 10-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Gracie Gillis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Elisabeth Ceballos and Avery Behrens did most of the damage at the plate: Ceballos got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Behrens went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four stolen bases gave Ceballos a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth McDonald, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Strathmore was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are 9-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Strathmore's record is now 15-8. As for Granite Hills, they moved to 8-14 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Strathmore will host Alpaugh at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Buffalos have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.2 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Granite Hills, they are taking a road trip to challenge Torres at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Toros have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.3 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
