Volleyball Recap: Martins Ferry Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Martins Ferry had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 3-1 to the Cambridge Bobcats on Monday. The Purple Riders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bobcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.

While Martins Ferry had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 19 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-19, 18-25, 25-23.

Giana Chirpas paced Martins Ferry's offense, picking up 26 kills. Chirpas got some help from Olivia Harkness and her 40 assists. Harkness was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Cambridge has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Martins Ferry didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 defeat against St. Clairsville on the 21st. As for Cambridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 3-1 win against Bellaire on the 20th.
