Despite the defeat, Ahoskie Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaelen Rascoe went 12-for-18 to rack up 28 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Rascoe's big performance that afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 20 points. Another player making a difference was Ian Leary, who posted eight points.
Meanwhile, Mount Calvary Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 51-41 to Coastal Brigade.
Ahoskie Christian will need to focus on slowing down Jentzen Wade, one of several Mount Calvary Christian Academy players who made an impact when they last played. He scored 16 points and five boards. That was a full 39% of Mount Calvary Christian Academy's points, marking the third time in a row Wade has earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Howell, who put up eight points and six rebounds.
Ahoskie Christian now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Mount Calvary Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Ahoskie Christian has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Mount Calvary Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
