Shelton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nicole Zotova, who had 15 digs and three aces. Zotova is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last seven games she's played. Emma Sollenne was another key player, getting seven digs and two aces.
They weren't the only good servers: Shelton was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Mercy came up short against Lyman Hall on Wednesday and fell 3-1. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
The 3-1 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24.
The victory got Shelton back to even at 6-6. As for Mercy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Shelton was able to grind out a solid win over Mercy in their previous matchup on September 4th, winning 3-1. Do the Gaels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
