Softball Game Preview: Jeffersontown Chargers vs. Mercy Jaguars

Jeffersontown hasn't had much luck against Mercy recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Chargers will head out on the road to take on the Jaguars at 2:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Jeffersontown will bounce into Saturday's contest after beating Spencer County, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Chargers were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Bears on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won five matches by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Mercy faced off against Fern Creek on Wednesday. The Jaguars came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 6-2. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Ava Reinhart was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Allie Streble, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

The victory made it two in a row for Jeffersontown and bumps their season record up to 5-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Mercy, their record now sits at 15-11.

Jeffersontown might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Mercy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
