Baseball Recap: Western Comes Up Short

Mater Academy East Las Vegas hit Western with a four-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors lost 11-1 to the Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 on Monday.

Edgar Garcia made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Western is 4-2 when Garcia posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-11 otherwise. Adrian Diaz was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Western has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 21-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western will welcome Doral Academy Red Rock at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dragons have averaged an impressive 12.2 runs per game this season. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, they will be playing at home against Lake Mead Christian Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 2.9, the Eagles 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
