Baseball Game Preview: Springfield Senators vs. Mt. Zion Braves

The Springfield Senators will square off against the Mt. Zion Braves at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Zion took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Springfield, who comes in off a win.

Springfield took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Rochester as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Senators considering their one-run performance the game before.

Karter Marks spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Levi Freidrich was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Heyen, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Springfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.

Meanwhile, Mt. Zion has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.65 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They came up short against St. Joseph-Ogden, falling 11-0. The Braves' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Mt. Zion's defeat dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Springfield, their win bumped their record up to 9-17.
