Softball Recap: William Byrd Comes Up Short

William Byrd extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-8 in the process. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Staunton River Golden Eagles. The Terriers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Golden Eagles from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Staunton River, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. 11 seems to be a good number for they as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Staunton River's part, Payton Evans made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Evans was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Kailynne Keister was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and one triple while going 3-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Alexis Coles was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. William Byrd will venture away from home to face off against Fleming at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Colonels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.9 runs per game on average), something the Terriers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Staunton River, they will head out to take on Liberty at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Eagles are facing the Minutemen at the right time seeing as the Minutemen are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
