Baseball Recap: Shalom Christian Academy Beats Turkeyfoot Valley Area for Their Third Straight Victory

Shalom Christian Academy waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 4-1 win over the Turkeyfoot Valley Area Rams.

Carter Defenderfer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Shalom Christian Academy is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Shalom Christian Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drake Wenger, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Wenger has become a key player for the Flames: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise.

The victory got Shalom Christian Academy back to even at 8-8. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Shalom Christian Academy will venture away from home to take on Southern Huntingdon County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Flames are facing the Rockets at the right time seeing as the Rockets are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, they will be playing at home against Berlin Brothersvalley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mountaineers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.38 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
