Baseball Recap: Eastern Greene's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak at Home

Eastern Greene dropped their record down to 15-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins at home. They lost 16-2 to the Clay City Eels. The Thunderbirds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eels apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Eastern Greene saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brenton Cook, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Clay City, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

On Clay City's side, Trey Dayhoff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. Dayhoff was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zain Keller, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Caden Cooper was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Coming up, Eastern Greene will challenge North Daviess at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Thunderbirds' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Clay City, they will take on Greencastle at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
