Football Recap: Mater Dei Catholic's Undefeated Season over After Ten Games

After soaring to 60 points the game before, Mater Dei Catholic was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They fell 19-6 to the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Crusaders came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Pilots are ranked 281st).

Sammy Gehler continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, throwing for 211 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 74 yards on only nine carries. The Pilots are undefeated when Gehler posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 2-6 otherwise.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mater Dei Catholic fell to 9-1. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mater Dei Catholic will head out to square off against Olympian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Mira Mesa at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
