Baseball Game Preview: Mineral Ridge Rams vs. McDonald Blue Devils

The Mineral Ridge Rams will head out to face off against the McDonald Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Mineral Ridge's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so McDonald's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Mineral Ridge will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against McKinley on Thursday. The Rams walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Red Dragons.

The team relied heavily on Jackson Geddes, who went 2-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was AJ Sandy, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Mineral Ridge hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McKinley struck out ten times.

Meanwhile, McDonald had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They blew past Western Reserve 11-3.

Mineral Ridge has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for McDonald, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6.

Mineral Ridge came out on top in a nail-biter against McDonald when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
