Basketball Recap: Maumee Valley Country Day Comes Up Short

After flying high against Northwood on Friday, Maumee Valley Country Day came back down to earth. The Maumee Valley Country Day Hawks took an 81-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bluffton Pirates on Saturday. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2020.

When it comes to explaining why Maumee Valley Country Day lost, don't look at Keeran Stokes. Despite the final result, he went 11-for-16 en route to 29 points. Stokes is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nasir Wilson, who went 6-for-7 to rack up 13 points and five assists.

Maumee Valley Country Day's defeat dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Bluffton, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maumee Valley Country Day will face off against Lake at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Maumee Valley Country Day's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests. As for Bluffton, they will challenge Wayne Trace at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
