Softball Recap: Bishop Union Comes Up Short

Bishop Union had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-6 to make it four. They fell 12-8 to the Kern Valley Broncs. The Broncos were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Broncs earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

As for Kern Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games.

For Kern Valley's part, Sam Wyly made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Wyly was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Emmalyn Bechtel and Ashley Plante did most of the damage at the plate: Bechtel went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Plante went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Bechtel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evagelene Burrows, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Bishop Union will look to defend their home field on Friday against Frazier Mountain at 3:15 p.m. As for Kern Valley, they will square off against Boron at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Broncs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
