Basketball Game Preview: Ponchatoula Green Wave vs. Independence Tigers

The Ponchatoula Green Wave and the Independence Tigers will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Ponchatoula's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Ponchatoula is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 91-42 win over Loranger. Given the Green Wave's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Wolves are ranked 259th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Independence escaped with a win on Saturday against Moss Point by the margin of a single free throw, 33-32. The 33-point effort marked Independence's lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Independence has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points per game. As for Ponchatoula, their victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Ponchatoula came up short against Independence in their previous matchup back in December of 2017, falling 56-49. Can Ponchatoula avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
