Basketball Recap: North Central Knights vs. Lugoff-Elgin Demons
North Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 20th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Lugoff-Elgin Demons, falling 46-8. The Knights lost against the Demons in their previous head to head back in November of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 79-12 score last time.
Lugoff-Elgin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordan Samuel led the charge by going 10 for 19 on her way to 21 points and three steals. Those 21 points gave Samuel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Williams, who posted eight points in addition to seven steals and six boards.
North Central's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they moved to 3-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Central won't have much time to rest: their next match is against McBee at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they will welcome Camden at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Camden knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Lugoff-Elgin likes a good challenge.
