Baseball Recap: Duchesne's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

Duchesne dropped their record down to 10-11 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They lost 14-4 to the San Juan Broncos. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Broncos this season, with their most recent defeat being a 10-1 loss back in March.

Scottie Branson and Caleb Thompson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Branson got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Thompson went 1-for-3 with one home run. Thompson is becoming a predictor of Duchesne's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 8-10 when he doesn't).

As for San Juan, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.

On San Juan's side, Jaiten Knight was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Knight has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other batting news, Branten Bethea was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cooper Palmer, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: San Juan beat Duchesne by a score of 17-6 later that day.
