Basketball Recap: Stanhope Elmore Comes Up Short

Stanhope Elmore lost against Calera back in November and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Stanhope Elmore Mustangs took a 64-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Calera Eagles.

Despite the loss, Stanhope Elmore saw an underclassman step up: freshman Terrance Collins went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points. Kaleb Sanders was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Stanhope Elmore has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Calera, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stanhope Elmore will take on Tallassee in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Calera and Bessemer City will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Calera's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
