Basketball Game Preview: West Harrison Hurricanes vs. Hattiesburg Tigers

The West Harrison Hurricanes will square off against the Hattiesburg Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

West Harrison is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top against Jim Hill by a score of 51-40.

West Harrison's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JaMarcus McCalebb, who posted 12 points and five assists. The dominant performance also gave McCalebb a new career-high in field goal percentage (75%). Another player making a difference was KeShawn Cook, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 11 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Hattiesburg waltzed into their contest on Saturday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They walked away with a 67-55 win over the Hawks. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Hawks are ranked 131st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West Harrison is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points over those games. As for Hattiesburg, their victory bumped their record up to 22-8.

West Harrison skirted past Hattiesburg 63-60 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Will West Harrison repeat their success, or does Hattiesburg have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
