Baseball Game Preview: Roxana Shells vs. Granite City Warriors

Roxana hasn't had much luck against Granite City recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Roxana Shells will take on the Granite City Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Roxana's victory against Greenfield/Northwestern wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Roxana's pitchers stepped up to hand Greenfield/Northwestern a 1-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Shells haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Bradley Herrin looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dalton Carriker, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Granite City had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past Gibault Catholic 19-6 on Tuesday.

Evan Brewer was incredible, firing off three home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in runs (three). Ben Wilson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Roxana couldn't quite get it done against Granite City when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can Roxana avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
