Basketball Recap: Langford's Losing Streak Snapped at 25 Games

Langford needed a changed in momentum after dropping 25 straight games and they got it from Kassen Keough. The Langford Lions snuck past the Burke Cougars with a 59-54 victory on Monday thanks in part to Keough, who went 11 for 23 on his way to 32 points and seven steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Langford's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Mertz, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points. Those 13 points gave him a new career-high.

When it comes to explaining why Burke lost, don't look at Quinten Bull. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 boards. Bull is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Bartling, who posted five points and five assists.

Langford's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Burke, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Langford will welcome Redfield at 8:00 p.m. on January 7th. Langford has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Burke, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Andes Central/Dakota Christian at 8:00 p.m. on January 9th.
