Basketball Recap: Victory Christian Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Victory Christian and Woodland Baptist Christian squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Victory Christian had to settle for second. They took a 70-55 bruising from the Woodland Baptist Christian Eagles. The Cardinals have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Victory Christian still got an impressive performance from Marissa Sloan, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Sloan is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zoe Vernelson, who posted 12 points and five boards.

Tabitha Airo continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Woodland Baptist Christian, going 6-for-10 from beyond the arc on her way to 29 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Airo has scored at least a third of Woodland Baptist Christian's points.

Victory Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Woodland Baptist Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.

As for Woodland Baptist Christian, they and New Manna Christian will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. New Manna Christian will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Woodland Baptist Christian surely won't give up without a fight.
