Baseball Recap: Algona Comes Up Short

Algona suffered their closest loss since June 23, 2025 on Monday. They fell just short of the Humboldt Wildcats by a score of 10-8. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 11-9.

Algona's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Humboldt, they moved to 12-8 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

Algona and Humboldt should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Iowa Rankings. The Bulldogs (ranked 35th) will meet Storm Lake (ranked 125th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Humboldt will square off against Spirit Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (91 vs. 217).
