Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences and Clairemont squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Chieftains by a score of 3-2. The Vipers' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

While Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 15 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 22-25, 17-15.

Clairemont's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabe Tocco led the charge by getting 13 blocks and 12 kills. Tocco is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now had two or more in each of the last 25 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makoa Miner, who had 17 kills and four blocks.

Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences' loss dropped their record down to 24-8-1. As for Clairemont, they pushed their record up to 27-10 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home.

Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Clairemont, they will square off against Santa Ynez at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Chieftains surely won't give up without a fight.
