Burroughs is 0-10 against Sultana since April of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Burros will face off against the Sultans at 3:15 p.m. Burroughs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Burroughs is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They fell 7-4 to Serrano.
Jadyn Green made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorrain Gamble, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Sultana had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They blew past the Sun Devils 15-5. Considering the Sultans have won 11 games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Savannah Vanderpool spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Avery Rodriguez was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Isabel Avalos, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Sultana lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Apple Valley only launched one home run.
Sultana pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Burroughs, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Burroughs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Sultana struggles in that department as they've averaged .375. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Burroughs might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Sultana in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Burros avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
