Baseball Game Preview: Holgate Tigers vs. Continental Pirates

The Holgate Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Continental Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Holgate has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Holgate lost 29-6 to Patrick Henry on Saturday. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Vincent Peck was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Peck wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zack Boecker, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Boecker has become a key player for Holgate: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-11 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Continental was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Paulding, falling 14-4.

Nolan Cordes was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Bidlack, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Holgate's record now sits at 4-12. As for Continental, their record is now 4-10-1.

Holgate took their win against Continental in their previous meeting back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 16-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
