Recap: Hanover Hornets vs. Genoa-Hugo Pirates
It was a good run, but The Hanover Hornets unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They were dealt a 65-35 loss at the hands of Genoa-Hugo. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hanover in their matchups with Genoa-Hugo: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the loss, Hanover still got an impressive performance from David Byers, who rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also caught a touchdown. Junior Diaz was another key contributor, rushing for 71 yards and a touchdown.
Genoa-Hugo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Konner Rowden-Stum out in front who picked up 147 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Trey Smith, who threw for 207 yards and five touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Hanover's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Genoa-Hugo, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Hanover will face off against Stratton at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Stratton's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four games. Genoa-Hugo will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Granada at 1:00 p.m. on November 4th. Granada is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
