Baseball Recap: Mabel-Canton Victorious

Mabel-Canton hadn't done well against Spring Grove recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cougars walked away with a 5-2 win over the Lions. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered an 8-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Isaac Underbakke made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Underbakke wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bode Weidemann, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Mabel-Canton's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Spring Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mabel-Canton will challenge Fillmore Central/Lanesboro at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Spring Grove, they will take on Grand Meadow/Kingsland/LeRoy-Ostrander at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
