Basketball Recap: Silver Creek Takes a Loss

Silver Creek fought the good fight in their overtime game against Pomona on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pomona Panthers by a score of 83-81. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (66), the Raptors still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Silver Creek still got an impressive performance from Connor Bonsett, who went 9-for-21 on his way to 26 points. Those 26 points gave Bonsett a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Preston Waller, who posted 11 points along with six assists and five steals.

Even though they lost, Silver Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Dj Hawkins, who had 37 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds for Pomona. Hawkins has become a key player for Pomona: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least 30 points, but 3-14 otherwise. Logan Oelrich was another key player, going 7-for-9 to rack up 17 points and eight boards.

Silver Creek has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points over those games. Pomona's victory bumped their record up to 8-15.

Looking ahead, Silver Creek will head out to challenge Thompson Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Silver Creek is facing Thompson Valley at the right time seeing as Thompson Valley is stuck on a four-game losing streak. Pomona does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
