Preview: Long County Blue Tide vs. Calvary Day Cavaliers
Long County is 0-4 against the Cavaliers since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The pair will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Long County had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They strolled past Claxton with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 47-29. The win was just what Long County needed coming off of a 47-27 loss in their prior game.
Meanwhile, Calvary Day came tearing into Saturday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 50-45 victory over Beach. That's two games straight that Calvary Day has won by exactly five points.
Calvary Day relied on the efforts of Bre Jones, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, and Destini Gooddine, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Gooddine has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Amariah Jones was another key contributor, scoring five points along with ten rebounds.
Long County's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11. As for Calvary Day, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with that victory, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season.
Long County lost to the Cavaliers on the road by a decisive 56-38 margin when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Jones, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
